Buying the right battery for a small energy production site (subpart ?? IOTA) (21-07-2020)

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

Attaching the right battery to my solar panel is a needed step for building up intelligence in storing, maintenance or maybe selling energy in small energy production site. There are many options available but as in any other project there are many properties that need to be compared for building a decision.

Goals:

  • 1.0 - 2.4 kWh capacity sounds reasonable for my application

  • programmability

Properties evaluated:

  • chemistry (lead-acid, lithium-ion, lithium-ferro-phosphate, saltwater)

  • eco friendly

  • outdoor ability (case or weather protection)

  • mobility

  • power (kw)

  • capacity (kWh)

  • installability

  • price

Open questions:

  1. Currently my solar panel installation already converts energy from DC to AC which allows me to input produced energy directly to my energy circle. If I'm going to store produced energy where do I install the battery in this flow?

  2. Price / Performance? which technology should I buy?

  3. Programmable interface? How can I automate my installation?

I use this blog as a written path to my decision and will update it reguarly.

Interesting technology:

APB, all polymer battery. should reduce the price of lithium ion battery..
