Protecting your privacy becomes harder everyday. April 2024 I had my first exchange with #Facebook/ Meta to delete my data because I locked myself out of my profiles. The online forms and filling didn't provide any success. The backup authentication path always failed.
The anniversary is getting closer and I'm still try to delete my data. From my perspective as a single user GDPR failed. #Meta even after a 6-7 years after the implementation of GDPR regulation is still able to use stalling tactics to keep my personal data.
For sure the data has lost some of it's marketing value since it's not actively being updated anymore but the #AI wave is slowing rolling out. And with 10 - 15 seconds of video data AI could create a fake version of me and use it to manipulate other individuals.
And the key argument can't be solely attractiveness of data.
There is more collaboration needed and people should be more aware about what is happening in the background.
With collaboration I follow the opinion of ICAIN (initiative to democratise artificial intelligence) to extend the UN sustainable development goals towards AI.
What can you do as an individual?
Break up your information silo by using different #browser where no tracking data is sent to Google as example. This removes the profiling potential and widens your perspective on what the internet is about. One solution I currently prefer is ecosia. No profiling and search ad revenue is used to finance green projects around the world.
Additionally I use data broker deletion services. This is maybe a far stretch for the average internet user. But those services automate the process of contacting those data brokers to delete your data profiles.
My next step brings me back to the good old postal services. I will need to send a registered letter to Meta Data Protection Lawyers in Switzerland to proof the inquiry data. EDÖB is then maybe able to help me further on my quest to delete date via the legal way.
I will keep you posted.
